As you may have heard, ’round the world, the MASCO High School Girls’ Varsity Ice Hockey Program has been saved. Administrators had errantly worked out the deal with another school without considering the full and long term impact that dismantling an existing Girls’ High School Hockey team would have on the future of Women’s Hockey everywhere. Despite multiple States’ Finals and Championship runs, a deep bench of returning upperclassmen, and a number of incoming freshmen (a program also fed by a thriving, ever-growing MASCO Youth Hockey Lady Chieftains Program, check out their link > Masco Hockey | Lady Chieftains) serving the Tri-Town Communities of Boxford, Middleton, and Topsfield), the decision had been made to “non-renew”, the MASCO Girls’ Ice Hockey Co-op. The Community, the world, Women’s Hockey, and supporters everywhere spoke loudly in an amazing grass roots effort to save the MASCO Girls’ Ice Hockey Program and to allow the girls to have a fair and equal opportunity to play ice hockey just like the boys; to be allowed to play at their own high school. Unfortunately, last season’s team has been dissolved. Every single one of the girls, forever friends, and ‘teammates’, in this amazing sport of Women’s Hockey share their best wishes and competition to each other as they all skate off to their next hockey adventure. They will enjoy seeing each other in the rinks for the rest of their lives; the wonderful gift of hockey and team play.
The 2020-21 winter season is finally approved and already showing signs of incredible excitement and high expectations. This is the first season play as a member team of the Northeast Conference (NEC). MASCO is looking forward to the challenge with a solid bench with many returning Varsity Upperclassmen (see Roster) and an extremely talented Freshman and 8th grade class. Watch for Coach Ryan Sugar and his amazing Assistant Coaches Rachael Duval and Alex Jones, (both MASCO Chieftains alum) to bring this team back to the States’ Championships again!!
Unfortunately, many of our High School League rinks are closed to spectators. Please check back, stayed tuned, for updates as we all work through this COVID Pandemic together. High School Winter Sports, and more exciting MASCO Girls’ Hockey are here!! At least they are allowed to play. Stay Safe. Mask up!
Thank you all for your Support!!
