Masconomet girls hockey
With only nine seconds left in the first period of Saturday’s Northeastern Conference game against Peabody, sophomore forward Charisse Flanagan helped turn Masconomet’s fortunes around.
Despite being on the penalty kill already trailing by one, Flanagan burst into the offensive zone with a shorthanded goal that tied the game 1-1. Later, with only 3:17 to go in the third, Flanagan scored her second of the game to ice what was a 3-1 win that pushed the Chieftains (6-5-1) over the .500 mark for the season.
Flanagan’s linemate Abby Gendron scored the game-winner with just 4:38 left in regulation, breaking the 1-1 tie. With her seventh and eighth goals of the season, Flanagan is now second among all Chieftain skaters in both goals and points. Masco returns to the ice Wednesday against St. Mary’s of Lynn.
