Girls Hockey: Port’s Elmore, Kelleher look to lead Masco co-op

Source: Daily News, 12/9/2017

The jerseys may read Masconomet, but the Chieftains girls hockey co-op has a distinctly local flavor as the defending Division 1 state semifinalists return for another run at the title.

This year’s Masconomet co-op, which includes players from Masco, Newburyport, Amesbury, Triton and Georgetown High, features 17 players from the local area. The Chieftains will be led by captains Kate Irons of Georgetown, Sami Kelleher of Newburyport and Riane Vatcher of Triton, along with All-Scholastic goalie Molly Elmore, a Newburyport resident who ranked among the state’s top netminders as a freshman last winter.

Offensively, the team returns top goal scorers Kelleher and Mikayla Vincent, both Newburyport girls who had 10 goals each. Masco’s Abby Gendron (19 points) and Irons (16 points) also return, and newcomer Charisse Flanagan could also be a big addition. The Matignon transfer had 13 goals and 18 assists last year.

The Haverhill-North Andover-Pentucket co-op is comprised mainly of Haverhill and North Andover players, but the squad is coming off a terrific 12-7-2 season and should be a factor in the MVC/DCL again.
